Press Release –On the possible closing of the University of Tirana in Kukes

Mr. Ibsen Elezi, President of Kukes Regional Council expressed his concern today about the closure of the branch of the University of Tirana in Kukes in a statement released to the media.  Mr. Elezi cited his belief that the closure of the university could deprive secondary school graduates of this year of the opportunity to pursue higher studies in the preference-merit model.

According to  Mr.Elezi, the decision taken by the Council of Ministers is wrong, as the branch of the University of Tirana in Kukes has shown seriousness in his work which is reflected in increased minimum quota of admission to 4 thousand points and the fact that 50% of his students can pursue higher studies in Tirana. Arguments, which show that Kukes subsidiary has increased the quality of teaching.

In addition, the closure of the branch of the university at this time will have a direct economic and social effect for Kukes Region

At the end of his statement Mr. Elezi called on local leaders of Kukes, branch managers of the University of Tirana to Kukes, and civil society to make all possible efforts to fight the closure of the Kukes campus.
